Ballad Of The Yellow Beret, Part I

Dedicated to A1C Paul Anthony, 6924th Security Squadron. KIA 4-8-70.

Frightened airman from the Texas sky,
Fearful man who would jump to lie!
Man who meant not what he would say!
This craven man deserved the despised yellow beret!
Privileged status then to protect his rear.
This man hid for a year!
Thousands of men then sacrificed each day,
But this one so deserved the yellow beret!
Trained to live off others' work,
Trained in politics with that smirk!
Man who hid both night and day!
Craven deep is this yellow beret!
Back at home veterans awaited an unknown fate,
While this yellow beret showed up a year late!

Ballad of the Yellow Beret, Part II

Dedicated to Sgt. Joseph Matejov and Baron 52. Lost over Laos 2-5-73.

They had sacrificed so much for a year,
Simply to protect him from his fear!
Privileged status even now to protect his rear,
This man still hides that missing year!
Thousands of men still sacrifice each day,
but this one always deserves the yellow beret!
Something smells about this guy!
His yellow color is the reason why!
Others still die to protect his rear,
Even in this very year!
If he is America's best?
We have all failed the test!
Make true bravery the American way,
Otherwise, all deserve the yellow beret!
